How to operate your CyberPanel cloud server

CyberPanel is a powerful, free and entirely open-source control panel that has been steadily growing in popularity over the last few years due to the fact that it is a very viable and suitable alternative to the popular cPanel, which has continued to increase its licenses prices.

Instead of having to manually install the software onto your server, we have created a 1-click application template that you can use to deploy a server with CyberPanel in a matter of minutes, saving you a lot of time and resources!

However, not everything can be automated, which is why you will have to manually manage your CyberPanel VPS or VDS. This is why in this documentation entry we are going to cover some of the most popular questions surrounding the control panel while also giving you some useful tips and step-by-step tutorials when it comes to operating your CyberPanel.

How to change your CyberPanel password

One of the most popular questions that seems to come up is how to change your CyberPanel password. Generally speaking, there are 2 ways in which you can do so - from the admin page and via the command line.

Password change from CyberPanel Admin

Navigate to your CyberPanel Admin page by opening your browser and typing in your server’s IP address, followed by the port. You should have this information from your provider. For our servers, you can find your credentials in the activation email.

Next, log into your CyberPanel.

Change password by using SSH

You can also change your password via the command line. To do so, you will need to first log into your server via SSH in order to establish a secure connection. Next, enter the following command and replace new_password with your desired credentials:

adminPass new_password

That’s it! You can now use your new password the next time you log into your CyberPanel.

How to update CyberPanel

It is important to keep your CyberPanel up to date in order to ensure that everything works as intended. However, before you do anything, make sure to create a backup for your server just in case there is something faulty with the update. You should also ensure that you have enough free disk space.

Start by logging into your CyberPanel dashboard and navigating to the Version Management section, which should be located in the menu on the left side of your screen. If there is an update that is available, you should see a message notification that you need to upgrade to the newest version of the software.

You will then be presented with a message about the state of CyberPanel. Type 1 and press Enter. This will download and install the latest version of the control panel, which might take some time depending on the size of the update. Once the new version has been installed, you will see a CyberPanel Upgraded message. In order to check whether you have the newest version of the software, you can go back to your CyberPanel dashboard and have a look at the Version Management section.

Start by logging into your CyberPanel dashboard using your credentials.

Next, navigate to the Websites dropdown section, which can be located in the menu on the left side of your screen. After expanding it, click on Create Sub-Domain.

You will then see the Domain, Path and PHP sections. This is where you need to enter the name of your subdomain and any additional details. Once you have chosen the domain, you will also need to select your path, preferred PHP version and any additional features such as SSL support for example. For the path, you can just have a folder with the same name of the subdomain and for PHP we recommend going with the same version as your main website.

To finalize the process, click on the Create Domain button.

Firstly, make sure you are logged into your control panel by using your credentials. Once inside, you will need to locate the Websites section, which will be in the menu on your left.

Next, you should see an option that says Create Website, which you will need to click on in order to begin configuring your new main domain.

You will see a number of different fields and options, which will all refer to different aspects of your domain:

  • Select Package - the default package, typically labeled 'Default', will be pre-selected, making it easy for non-experienced users to quickly set up their domain.
  • Select Owner - the owner of the domain will be set to 'admin', ensuring that you have full control over it.
  • Select Domain Name - this is where you will need to enter your domain name
  • Email - the email field is needed as you will need to have an email in order to get updates and notifications about your domain

PHP Version - You will also need to choose a PHP version for your domain. If you are not sure which one to get, make sure to select the latest one in order to guarantee security.

In addition to these configuration fields, CyberPanel also has built-in support for a number of other security features. This includes SSL and DKIM support as well as open_basedir Protection. SSL ensures that connections to your website are encrypted and secure, while DKIM protects your emails. Open_basedir on the other hand limits PHP access to a given directory, making it possible for you to further protect your files and website.
